Set up first-place showdown in Crapaud on Saturday

TIGNISH – The Tignish Perry’s Construction Aces have closed to within two points of the first-place Southside Lynx in the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League.

The Aces trimmed the last-place Tyne Valley Clover Farmers 13-2 on Wednesday night to improve to 19-6-2 (won-lost-overtime/shootout losses). The Lynx, who will host the Aces in the regular-season finale for both teams on Saturday night, is 20-5-2. Game time at the South Shore Actiplex in Crapaud is 7:40.

The Clover Farmers, who dropped to 2-25-0, will close out the regular season with a home game at the Tyne Valley Community Sports Centre against the Belfast Sabres (15-10-2) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

At the Tignish Credit Union Arena, Slade Handrahan (3-1), Traven Gaudet (2-2), Lucas Matthews (2-2), Andrew Doucette (2-1), Rylie Shea (1-3), Karter Hackett (1-3), Jacob LeClair (1-2) and Parker Arsenault (1-1) scored for the Aces. Charlie Bernard (2), Dylan Rayner, Mitch Doucette, Connor McRae and Dillon Arsenault picked up assists.

Dylan Ellis (1-1) and Clark Gallant countered for the Clover Farmers, who had 11 players listed on the game sheet, including two goaltenders. Travis Thibideau, Zack Groom and Jordan Arsenault chipped in with helpers.

The Aces built comfortable period leads of 4-0 and 10-1.

Overall, the Aces outshot the Clover Farmers 49-18. Chase Dyment picked up the goaltending win.

Referee Jeff Affleck called two of three minor penalties against Tignish.
