SACKVILLE, NB – The Mount Allison Mounties won their third tournament of the season by claiming 89 of a possible 100 points at the ACAA badminton tournament hosted at Mount Allison on Saturday.

Second place was Dal Agricultural College with 60 points, while University of Kings College ended the day with 48 points, and Université Sainte Anne with 44.

Mount Allison picked up three of five first-place category finishes in section A and four top spots in section B.

Mount Allison winners were the men’s doubles teams of Greg McGuire of Summerside with Feng Li, and Tristan Kean and Gavin Rea who went undefeated in both A and B sections.

In women’s doubles, Gillian Tetlow and Sunwen Metler also went undefeated, while the team of Alexina LePage and Michaela St. Amand had one loss.

The duo of first-year Nathan Dix and senior Carrie Drake took the 10 points for first in section A, while two rookies, Michael Miller and Margaret Arsenault claimed top spot in the B section.

In singles action, Mount Allison had to settle for second and third-place finishes in the A section of play with Tristan Kean losing only once to the league’s top player, Chris Ross from Dal Agricultural College in men’s action.

In the B section of singles, both men and women for Mount Allison were the top point getters.

Michael Miller and Kristyn Visser both ended the day with three wins and 10 points for first place.

The Mounties travel to Dal Agricultural College on Feb. 9 for the final league tournament and Mount Allison will be the host of the ACAA championships to be held Feb. 16 and 17.
