Late goal spoils Reid’s shutout bid

Vipers double Hurricanes 4-2

CHARLOTTETOWN – Logan Reid stopped 26 of 28 shots to backstop the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers to 4-2 victory over the Holland College Hurricanes on Saturday night.

The Charlottetown Civic Centre was the site of the Island Junior Hockey League contest.

The Vipers led 1-0 after the first and second periods, and then opened up a 3-0 lead at the 15-minute mark of the third period. Holland College answered with two goals 1:01 apart with under two minutes remaining in the third period to spoil Reid’s shutout bid and make it a 3-2 game. However, Brett Hogan scored his second goal of the game into an empty net with four seconds remaining to seal the win.

Isaac Jay and Jordan Mayhew each had a goal and an assist to account for the other two Kensington goals. Adam Wight, Spencer Montgomery and Kyle Doucette added assists.

For the Hurricanes, Will Connolly (1-1) and Jonny Richards found the back of the net, with helpers going to Blake Ozon (2) and Eric Locke.

Dylan McQuaid faced 41 shots between the pipes for the Hurricanes.

Referee Wayne Doyle assessed just two minor penalties against each team.
