It was a big win for the first-place Granites, who moved three points ahead of the Crunch in the Island Community Senior Hockey League standings. Kensington is now 6-2-1 (won-lost-overtime losses) while the Crunch dropped to 5-6-0.
At Community Gardens, the host Granites jumped out to a 4-2 lead after 20 minutes, but the Crunch roared back in the middle frame to take a 6-5 advantage into the second intermission.
Cameron Webster’s second goal of the game at 3:38 of the final frame evened the score. Devan Praught (2-1), Brad Gallant (1-2) and Alex Noonan rounded out the Granites’ scoring. Jason Smallman added an assist.
For the Crunch, Cory Chaisson (2-1), Greg O’Brien (2), Evan Shea (1-1) and Josh Whiteway found the back of the net. Assists were credited to Vaughan Miller (2), Kaelan Brennan, Jordan Costello and Josh MacKinnon.
Nick Creelman earned the goaltending win.
