CRAPAUD – Jordan Arsenault’s 45-save effort backed the last-place Tyne Valley Clover Farmers to a 4-3 upset win over the first-place Southside Lynx in a Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League contest here on Saturday night.

In other league action, the North River Flames trimmed the Belfast Sabres 8-3.

Clover Farmers 4 Lynx 3

At the South Shore Actiplex, the Lynx took a 1-0 lead into the second period, but the Clover Farmers broke out for three goals to take a 3-2 advantage into the second intermission. The teams then exchanged goals in the final 20 minutes.

Tyne Valley improved to 2-20-0 (won-lost-overtime/shootout losses) while the Lynx dropped to 18-5-2 and failed to gain any ground on the surging second-place Tignish Perry’s Construction Aces, who took a five-game winning streak into Sunday afternoon’s game in Belfast.

The Aces had an opportunity to pull even with the Lynx with a win in that game.

Josh Bernard’s hat trick led the Clover Farmers, who also received a goal off the stick of Mitch Girard (1-1). Josh Darrach (2) and Zach Groom picked up assists.

Chad Murphy (1-1), Morgan Murphy and Alex MacLeod accounted for Southside’s scoring. Single helpers went to Evan Harding, Joel MacIsaac, Greg Beckingham, Spencer Dougay and Rob Miller.

Overall, Southside outshot Tyne Valley 48-24. Dylan Garnhum was in goal for the Crapaud-based Lynx.

Flames 8 Sabres 3

At the APM Centre in Cornwall, Bradley Vukicevic (2-1), Chris Arsenault (2-1), Brennan Dalziel (1-2), Brad Power (1-1), Lal Hennessey (1-1) and Max MacDonald scored for the Flames (15-8-2). Dan MacPhee had three assists.

For the Sabres, Josh Doran (1-1), Kurtis MacEwan and Zack MacEwan dented the twine.

The Flames held period leads of 4-1 and 5-2.

Kurt Willis picked up the goaltending win, and the Flames outshot the Sabres 29-23.
