Capitals skate to pair of ties

Pownal trims Mid-Isle

CHARLOTTETOWN – The Summerside Capitals skated to back-to-back ties in P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League action earlier this week.

The Capitals and league-leading Pownal Red Devils played to a 3-3 stalemate on Wednesday night, and Summerside and Sherwood tied 4-4 on Thursday.

In another league game Thursday, the first-place Pownal Red Devils blanked the Mid-Isle Matrix 6-0.

At Credit Union Place in Summerside, Dalton MacDonald’s third-period goal salvaged a tie for the Red Devils. Pat Cummiskey and Harrison Hayden each had a goal and an assist to round out Pownal’s scoring.

Liam Arsenault-Gallant (1-1), Colton Gallant and Chasse Gallant countered for the Capitals, who received a pair of helpers from Owen Arsenault.

The Red Devils led 2-1 after the first period, but the Capitals answered back to take a 3-2 advantage into the second intermission.

At the Cody Banks Arena in Charlottetown, Arsenault-Gallant’s second goal of the night with 3:50 remaining in the third period lifted the Capitals into the tie.

Gallant (1-3) and Arsenault also dented the twine for the Capitals, who are now 4-19-3 (won-lost-tied).

Kyle Keoughan (1-2), Jordan Jewell (1-1), Jordan McCabe and Brady Sinnot countered for the Falcons (10-12-3).

The Falcons jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one period, but the Capitals answered back to even the score 3-3 before the second intermission.

At the Pownal Sports Centre, Matt Derry recorded the shutout while Hayden (2), Curtis Martell (1-1), John MacKenzie, Sam Hughes and Colin MacEachern lit the lamp for the Red Devils (17-4-4). Cummiskey added four assists.

The Red Devils held period advantages of 3-0 and 4-0.

The Matrix fell to 14-7-4.
