After winning head-to-head battle Sunday night

TIGNISH – The Tignish Perry’s Construction Aces have moved to within two points of the first-place Southside Lynx in the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League.

Traven Gaudet’s three-goal, one-assist performance sparked the Aces’ offence in an 8-3 victory over the Lynx on Sunday night.

The win improved Tignish’s resumé to 16-5-2 (won-lost-overtime/shootout losses), good enough for 34 points. The Crapaud-based Lynx has 36 points on the strength of a 17-4-2 mark.

In other league action on Sunday night, the North River Flames blanked the Tyne Valley Clover Farmers 5-0.

 

Aces 8 Lynx 3

At the Tignish Credit Union Arena, the Aces held period leads of 3-1 and 4-3 before putting the game out of reach with four unanswered goals in the final 20 minutes.

Slade Handrahan (2-1), Riley Shea (1-1), Kirk Ramsay and Parker Arsenault scored for the Aces. Other assists went to Dillan Rayner (2), Karter Hackett (2) and Joel MacIsaac.

For the Lynx, Rob Miller (1-1), Cody Dawson and Alex MacLeod found the back of the net. Chad Murphy (2), Marshall Thomas, Morgan Watts and Evan Harding added helpers.

Overall, the Aces held a 30-27 shots-on-goal advantage. Jake Hackett picked up the goaltending decision.

Referee Jonny Martin called just four minor infractions – three of them against the Aces.

The Regal Cresting player of the game for the Aces was Gaudet.

 

Flames 5 Clover Farmers 0

At the Tyne Valley Community Sports Centre, Kurt Willis registered the 19-save shutout while Tyne Valley goaltender Jordan Arsenault faced 48 shots.

The Flames jumped out to a 4-0 first-period lead, and took that advantage into the first two intermissions.

Brennan Dalziel (1-1), Adam Gallant, Brad Power, Dan MacPhee and Dakota Vessey lit the lamp for the Flames (14-7-2). Bradley Vukicevic, Logan LeClair, Jeremy MacAulay, Curtis Gant, Lal Hennessey and Ryan MacGuigan earned single assists.

Referee Richard Johnson called nine minors, one 10-minute misconduct and one game misconduct against the Clover Farmers (1-20-0). North River picked up just one minor penalty.
