Ashley’s 14th goal of the season, which came on the power play at 5:11 of the third period, pulled the Mooseheads into a 3-3 tie with the P.E.I. Rocket in a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League contest. Jonathan Drouin’s 20th goal of the season at 13:01 gave the Mooseheads a 4-3 win before 9,397 fans at the Halifax Metro Centre.
Nathan MacKinnon (1-2) and Martin Frk (1-2) rounded out the scoring for the Mooseheads, who sport a league-best 35-4-2-1 (won-lost-overtime losses-shootout losses).
Matej Beran (1-2), Jack Nevins and Tomas Pavelka supplied the goals for P.E.I. (24-17-2-0).
The Rocket led 2-0 after the opening period, and took a 3-2 cushion into the second intermission.
Overall, the Mooseheads outshot the Rocket 38-25, including period advantages of 12-9, 14-8 and 12-8. Zachary Fucale was the winning goaltender, and Maxime Lagacé took the loss.
The Rocket returns to action on Wednesday against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. Game time in Bathurst, N.B., is 7:30 p.m.
