The Capitals, who trailed 1-0 after the first period, exploded for five unanswered second-period goals en route to a 7-1 road triumph over the Campbellton Tigers.

The win improved the Capitals’ league-leading record to 27-6-2-0 (won-lost-overtime losses-shootout losses).

At the Campbellton Memorial Civic Centre, Jonathan Aubertin scored twice while Mitch Maynard added three assists to lead the Capitals, who received a goal and an assist from four players – Thomas Stavert, Danny Chiasson, Colton Parsons and former Tiger Chris Caissy. Alex Gallant scored the other Caps’ goal while Patrick Volpe and Jason Seed chipped in with single helpers.

Alex Dalley opened the game’s scoring for the Tigers with a short-handed goal at 16:36 of the first period.

Overall, the Caps outshot the Tigers 45-24. Jacob Riley earned win No. 16 this season while Jeremy Gallant tended goal for the Tigers (11-23-1-1).

The Capitals return home to host the Metro Shipbuilders from Dartmouth, N.S., in a rare Saturday night contest at Eastlink Arena. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7 p.m., and the Caps have guaranteed a 50/50 pool of $5,000.
