After high-scoring win over Falcons

KENSINGTON – It appears the race for first place in the Island Junior Hockey League will come right down to the wire.

Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers

The Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers outlasted the Sherwood A&S Scrap Metal Falcons 11-8 on Sunday night. The win moves the Vipers, who are 14-4-1 (won-lost-overtime/shootout losses), into a first-place tie with Falcons (14-5-0-1) at 29 points each.

Before 225 fans at Community Gardens, Brett Hogan’s five-point effort, three goals and two assists, and four helpers off the stick of Spencer Montgomery paced the Vipers’ attack.

Matt Stead also recorded a hat trick for Kensington while other goals were credited to Kendall Costello (1-1), Adam Wight, Logan Garnhum, Kyle Doucette and Jordan Mayhew. Isaac Jay (2), Brandon Gallant (2), Jeremy Jollimore and Tyler Doyle added other assists.

For the Falcons, Harrison Nicholson (2-1), Matt McQuaid (2-1), Pat Brazil (1-3), Josh Kirkpatrick (1-1), Craig Dougan and Kyle McKinnon found the back of the net. Connor Lea (2), Brady Cook, Logan MacKinnon and Mike Callaghan drew assists.

The Vipers led 3-2 after the opening period, but the teams went into the second intermission even at 5-5.

Referee Wayne Doyle called six of the 10 minors called in the game against the Vipers.

Grant Grady and Logan Reid shared the goaltending duties for the Vipers. Devon Cudmore went the distance for the Falcons.
