The Capitals jumped out to a 3-0 first-period lead, and led 5-1 following 40 minutes, en route to a 6-4 victory over the Truro Bearcats before 1,317 fans at Eastlink Arena.

It was the seventh win in a row for the Capitals, who improved their league-leading record to 26-6-2-0 (won-lost-overtime losses-shootout losses). The Bearcats, meanwhile, fell to 21-6-0-3. The win also gives the Caps a three-point lead over the Eastlink Division-leading Yarmouth Mariners (25-5-1-0) atop the league’s overall standings.

Mitch Maynard (2-1) and Justin Rasmussen (1-2) each had three points to lead the Capitals.

Jacob Riley stopped 35 of 39 shots for the Caps, who are the host team for the 2013 RBC Cup Canadian junior A hockey championship tournament from May 11 to 19. The Bearcats are hosting the Fred Page Cup Eastern Canadian junior A hockey championship the first week of May.
