Ellis scores winning

goal for Hamilton

HAMILTON, Ont. – Defenceman Morgan Ellis of East Bideford scored what proved to be the winning goal for the Hamilton Bulldogs on Friday night.

Ellis broke a 3-3 tie at 1:39 of the third period, sending the Bulldogs to a 6-3 win over the St. John’s Ice Caps in American Hockey League action.

It was Ellis’ third goal of the season.

Ashley nets 11th

SYDNEY, N.S. – Darcy Ashley of Brooklyn, P.E.I., scored his 11th goal of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League regular season on Friday night.

Ashley helped the Halifax Mooseheads to a 4-1 road win over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.

Matrix erupt

in third period

NORTH RUSTICO – The Mid-Isle Matrix scored three unanswered third-period goals defeat the Pownal Red Devils 3-1 in a P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League game here at the North Star Arena on Friday night.

Spencer McAllister, Jacob Stewart and Matt Dickieson were the goal-scorers for the Matrix. Jordan Hambly replied for the Red Devils.

The first period was scoreless, and the Red Devils took a 1-0 lead into the second intermission.

Winning goaltender was Alex Smith.

UPEI hosts Moncton

in Tignish on Saturday.

TIGNISH – The UPEI Panthers and Moncton Blue Eagles will clash in an Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey exhibition game at the Tignish Credit Union Arena on Saturday.

Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Both teams will be using the game to prepare for the resumption of regular-season play next weekend.
