Red Wings, Vipers host key games Sunday

KENSINGTON – Prince County’s two entries in the Island Junior Hockey League will each host important games on Sunday that will have a direct impact on the standings.

The Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings will entertain the Sherwood A&S Scrap Metal Falcons at the Evangeline Recreation Centre at 2 p.m., and the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers will greet the Charlottetown Abbies at Community Gardens in a 7 p.m. start.

The Vipers and Falcons enter weekend action tied atop the six-team league standings with identical records of 13-4-1 (won-lost-overtime/shootout losses).

The Red Wings are currently in a three-way battle with the Holland College Hurricanes and Montague Maniacs for third place. In 18 games, the Red Wings have accumulated a 9-9-1 record for 17 points.

The Hurricanes have played 19 contests and sit 8-11-0 for 16 points, and the Maniacs took an 8-12-0 mark into Friday night’s home contest against the last-place Abbies (5-12-0).

The Red Wings are coming off a 3-2 home-ice win over the Vipers on Wednesday, and the Falcons doubled the visiting Abbies 6-3 on Thursday night.
