P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League

CHARLOTTETOWN – The Western Regals won and tied in back-to-back weekend games in the P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League.

The Regals blanked the Charlottetown Abbies 5-0 on Sunday afternoon, and tied the Kings County Kings on Saturday night.

In other action Saturday, the Mid-Isle Matrix edged the Abbies 5-4.

Regals 5 Abbies 0

At the Charlottetown Civic Centre, the Regals built period leads of 3-0 and 5-0 behind the shutout goaltending of Rowgan Barbour.

Brett Doyle (2-2), Jason Gallant (1-3), Robbie Fraser (1-2) and Brett Aylward dented the twine for the Regals. Calvin MacRae and Brendan Smith chipped in with assists.

Regals 2 Kings 2

At the Jacques Cartier Arena in Alberton, Fraser and Aylward scored for the Regals, who picked up single helpers from Gallant, Doyle and Jeff Gaudet.

Jordan Roche and Tyler Rose answered for the Kings. Drew Christensen, Spencer Ross and Colby Mooney earned helpers.

The Regals led 1-0 after the first period, and the teams were tied 2-2 following 40 minutes.

Goaltenders were Keltin Ellis (Regals) and Nolan Compton (Kings).

Matrix 5 Abbies 4

At Simmons Sport Centre in Charlottetown, Spencer McAllister’s four-goal performance keyed the Matrix victory. Ryan Murray netted the other Matrix goal while assists went to Alex Wood (2), Tyler Sark, Easton Smith and Benjamin Landry.

James Lantz, Josh Scott, Ryan Lawless and Patrick Smith countered for the Abbies. Nick MacDonald (2), Mark MacMillan, Jacob Kays and Matt Lange assisted.

The Abbies led 2-1 after the first period, and the teams went into the second intermission tied 3-3.

Cameron Visser picked up the goaltending win.
