MacPhee backstops

Granites past Marines

MONTAGUE – Tim MacPhee stopped 32 shots to backstop the Kensington Clark Insurance Granites to a 5-2 victory over the Montague Marines on Sunday night.

The Island Community Senior Hockey League game was played at the Cavendish Farms Wellness Centre.

Devan Praught (1-2), Mark Paynter (1-1), Cameron Webster (1-1), Andrew Hayes and Mark Totten dented the twine for the Granites. Chris Ellis, Jon Cameron and Brad Gallant chipped in with assists.

Jamie MacInnis and Chris Doyle answered for the Marines.

The Granites, who improved to 2-0 (won-lost) in the young season, took a 3-1 lead into the second intermission after the first period ended in a 1-1 tie.

Only four minor penalties – three of those against Montague – were called in the game.

The two teams will meet again at Community Gardens in Kensington on Wednesday. The opening faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Big night for

Aces’ Gaudet

TIGNISH – Traven Gaudet recorded five points to lead the Tignish Perry’s Construction Aces to a 7-1 victory over the Morell Crunch in a Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League contest here at the Credit Union Arena on Sunday night.

Gaudet, who was named the Regal Cresting player of the game, finished with four goals and one assist while Karter Hackett had a goal and three helpers. Mitch Doucette and Spencer Gallant also scored for the Aces, who received other helpers from Jordan Gaudet (2), Rylie Shea, Jeff Gaudet, Brendon Smith and Dylan Rayner.

Darcy Nicholson, assisted by JD Farrel, netted Morell’s lone goal.

The Aces built period leads of 1-0 and 3-0.

Jake Hackett picked up the goaltending win as the Aces enjoyed a 36-30 shots-on-goal advantage.

Referee Justin DesRoches had a quiet night as he assessed just one minor against each team.

Southside outlasts Tyne

Valley in junior C play

TYNE VALLEY – The Southside Lynx outlasted the Tyne Valley Clover Farmers 8-6 in a Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League game here at the Community Sports Centre on Sunday night.

Morgan Watts (3-1), Cody Dawson (1-1), Andy Murphy (1-1), Joel MacIsaac and Chrone MacVitte scored for the Crapaud-based Lynx.

JC Dawson (2-2), Evan Ballum (1-2), Jordan Lewis, Ben Rice and Josh Bernard countered for the Clover Farmers, who trailed 2-1 after the first period and 7-5 after the second.

Dylan Garnhum picked up the goaltending win.

Referee Jonny Martin called three of five minor infractions against Tyne Valley. Each team picked up one 10-minute misconduct.

Ozon’s hat trick keys

Hurricanes’ victory

CHARLOTTETOWN – Blake Ozon’s three-goal performance led the Holland College Hurricanes to a 6-5 victory over the Sherwood A&S Scrap Metal Falcons in Island Junior Hockey League action here at the Civic Centre on Sunday afternoon.

John Livingston (1-3), Brandon Barrett (1-1) and Greg Brown also scored for the Hurricanes, who improved to 6-10-0 (won-lost-overtime losses).

Josh Kirkpatrick (2), Brady Cook (1-1), Cody McGuirk and Kyle MacKinnon replied for the second-place Falcons (9-4-1), who trail the league-leading Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers (10-3-0) by a single point.

Holland College held period leads of 3-1 and 4-3.

Dustin Stevens picked up the goaltending win over Zack Gallison.
