It was the Granites’ regular-season opener in the Island Community Senior Hockey League.
Gallant scored a hat trick and helped set up two others while Praught netted a brace and earned three assists. Kirk MacPhee and Jason Smallman netted the other Kensington goals, with helpers going to Cameron Webster (4), Marshall Ellis, Nathan DesRoches, Alex Noonan and Nich Tremere.
Sheldon Sappier (1-1), Greg O’Brien and Evan Shea replied for the Crunch, who dropped to 0-2 (won-lost) after losing to Montague 6-2 on Sunday. Scott Ramsay, Drew Power, James Cooley and Jordan Costello assisted.
The Granites built period leads of 3-0 and 6-2.
Winning goaltender was Nick Creelman, and Jared Kelly was between the pipes for Charlottetown.
A total of nine minor penalties were called in the game – five of those against the Granites.
