Vipers open IJHL season with win

CHARLOTTETOWN - Ty Price scored twice and Jeremy Jollimore and Spencer Montgomery each had a goal and an assist to lead the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers as the Island Junior Hockey League opened its season on the weekend. The Vipers defeated the Holland College Junior Hurricanes 5-2 on Saturday at the Civic Centre in Charlottetown.

Kyle Doucette also scored for the winners, while Mitch Gallant (2), Jordan Mayhew and Adam Wight drew assists.

Gardner and Burton scored for the Hurricanes. Brandon Barrett (2) and Jonny Richards picked up assists.

The Vipers led 2-0 after the first period and 3-2 after the second and outshot their hosts 40-20.

Logan Reid was in goal for the Vipers. Arsenault was the Hurricanes' netminder.

 

Red Wings 7 Maniacs 2

Friday at Montague, the Evangeline Arsenault's Fish Mart Red Wings erupted for five unanswered third-period goals to beat the Maniacs.

The Red Wings trailed 2-1 after one period but led 3-2 following 40 minutes of play.

Jeremy Balderston (3), Tyson Phillips (2), Evan Ballum and Logan Arsenault scored for the Red Wings. 

Bruce and Fitzpatrick replied for Montague.

Winning goaltender was Chris Gallant.
