Summerside outscores Kings County

CHARLOTTETOWN – A power-play goal late in the third period lifted the Charlottetown Abbies into an 8-8 tie with the Western Regals in Saturday’s lone game in the P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League.

In action Friday night, the visiting Summerside Capitals outscored the Kings County Kings 6-4.

There were no league games played Sunday.

 

Abbies 8 Regals 8

At Simmons Sport Centre in Charlottetown, Nick Handrahan’s second goal of the game at 18:42 of the third period salvaged a point for the second-place Abbies (13-6-7).

Nick MacDonald (2-1), Ryan McGuigan (2), Dylan Beck and Mark MacMillan rounded out Charlottetown’s scoring. Lal Hennessey (2), Josh Kelly (2), Matt Lange (2), Ryan Lawless, Logan Carr and Trent Coffin picked up assists.

Ryan McNeill (2), Jason Gallant (1-3), Karter Hackett (1-2), Brett Aylward (1-2), Traven Gaudet (1-1), Jesse Knox (1-1) and Connor Dillon found the back of the net for the third-place Regals (14-9-3), who are two points back of the Abbies. Brendan Smith (3), Robbie Fraser (2) and Ryley Doyle (2) added assists.

The Abbies jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the opening period, but the Regals rebounded for a 7-5 lead following 40 minutes.

The shots-on-goal totals were even at 30.

At the Eastern Kings Sportsplex in Souris, Griffin Gallant scored twice while Tyler LeBlanc (1-1), Keita Marikoshi (1-1) and Cody MacLeod (1-1) also had two-point performances to lead Summerside (10-14-1). Brett Adams netted the other goal, with single helpers credited to Lucas Gallant, Tayler Albert and Brett Pineau.

Chris Stevenson, who also had an assist, and Spencer Ross each scored twice for the Kings (6-17-3). Keirsten Steele, Tyler Rose, Kenny MacKinnon, Tanner Nicholson and Tyler McGillvray chipped in with helpers.

The Capitals held period leads of 3-1 and 3-2.

Winning goaltender was Wylie Tanton.
