Gaudette named UPEI's female athlete of week

After scoring back-to-back overtime goals

CHARLOTTETOWN – Amber Gaudette of Alberton has been named UPEI’s Wave female athlete of the week.

Gaudette, who is captain of the UPEI women’s hockey team, scored back-to-back overtime winners in a span of 24 hours over the weekend.

Saturday, Gaudette scored 43 seconds into overtime to give the Panthers a 2-1 win over the Mount Allison Mounties. Then on Sunday, Gaudette netted the game-winning goal 9:43 into overtime for a 1-0 UPEI win.

Gaudette is a fifth-year science student.

 

Male award

Basketball player Manock Lual received the male award.

Lual averaged 26.5 points per game for the Panthers in two weekend games at Memorial.

In addition, Lual recorded seven rebounds, four assists, one block and 1.5 steals per game.

A fifth-year arts student from Ottawa, Ont., Lual is also a team leader and captain.

The Panthers return home this weekend to host Acadia on Saturday and Sunday.
