Alberton native nets back-to-back winning goals

CHARLOTTETOWN – UPEI Panthers forward and team captain Amber Gaudette of Alberton played the hero’s role in two Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey games here at MacLauchlan Arena over the weekend.

Gaudette scored back-to-back overtime goals to give the Panthers a 2-1 win over the Mount Allison Mounties on Saturday afternoon, and a 1-0 decision over the St. Thomas Tommies on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers have won three games in a row.

Anya Weisser and Keirstin Visser of Crapaud set up Gaudette’s game-winner against the Tommies (3-5-1). The time of that goal was 9:43.

Kristy Dobson registered a 19-save shutout for the Panthers (5-4-0).

Against Mounties

Visser and Christina Kelly drew the assists on Gaudette’s deciding goal 44 seconds into extra time against Mount Allison (4-3-2).

Lisa Riley’s first-period goal gave the Mounties a 1-0 lead, but Jessie-Anne Howard’s power-play goal evened the score at 3:46 of the middle frame. Laura Bradley of Mount Stewart and Sam Sweet of O’Leary assisted.

Bailey Toupin earned the goaltending win.

UPEI visits Saint Mary’s on Saturday night and St. Francis Xavier on Sunday afternoon.
