Gallant sparks Tommies past UPEI

FREDERICTON, N.B. — Summerside native Brad Gallant scored two goals 10 seconds apart in the third period as the St. Thomas Tommies rallied to dump the UPEI Panthers 6-3 in Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey action on Friday night.

Gallant scored 11:51 of the third to make it 3-3, and his second at 12:01 made it 4-3, as the Tommies came back with four unanswered goals in the final frame.

Robert Zandbeek, at 18:48, and Steve Sanza, his second game of the game at 19:17, added empty-netters.

Gallant had an assist on Zandbeek’s goal and was named the game’s first star.

Chad Locke (1-1), Travis MacIsaac and Reggie Traccitto scored for the Panthers (3-4-0).

Jonathan Bonneau had the other goal for the Tommies (2-5-0).

The teams were tied 2-2 after the first period.

Charles Lavigne made 26 saves for the Tommies, and Mavric Parks made 25 for the Panthers.

The UPEI squad will play at UNB tonight at 7.
