SUMMERSIDE – The Summerside Storm roster is now down to 13 players.

Doug McKinney checks out his options during a drill at the Summerside Storm training camp in Slemon Park.

Storm head coach Joe Salerno confirmed three players – Doug McKinney of Charlottetown, Sherone Edwards and Calvin Brock – were released from the National Basketball League of Canada team Tuesday morning. McKinney and Edwards are both former UPEI Panthers.

With their local connection to P.E.I., Salerno admitted having to release Edwards and McKinney was a difficult decision. McKinney had been in camp since Day 1 while Edwards joined the Storm last week.

“Sherone was here for a pretty short period of time,” said Salerno. “Unfortunately, it just didn’t work out.

“Sherone was here for a pretty short period of time. Unfortunately, it just didn’t work out. Doug was really one of the hardest-working guys in camp. You would love to have a local guy stay on, but unfortunately it’s just not the route I decided to go. But he (McKinney) really worked extremely hard. My hat is off to him for what he did coming into camp and competing with some of these guys.” Storm head coach Joe Salerno
