SUMMERSIDE - Now that the exhibition schedule has been completed and training camp is entering its final days, the Summerside Western Capitals can turn their attention to the regular season.

The Capitals open their 2010-11 MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) schedule on home ice against the Dieppe Commandos on Sunday. Game time at Credit Union Place is 2 p.m.

"Camp has been competitive and we like the way it's gone," said Capitals head coach Gordie Dwyer. "It's a continuous work in progress for the whole season."

Dwyer, in his second season behind the Caps' bench, admits finalizing the opening-day roster will not be an easy task.

"There are a lot of guys who are really making it hard on us," said Dwyer. "That's a good thing.

"As an organization, we have a lot of real good young players that we have to make decisions on regarding their midget eligibility. A lot of guys have really stepped up in camp and in the exhibition season."

MacDonald returns

The Capitals' blue-line received a boost earlier this week when it was learned that third-year defenceman Spencer MacDonald will be rejoining the team after attending the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Saint John Sea Dogs' training camp.

"He's going to be a huge plus for our hockey team," said Dwyer. "He's a player the fans know well, and he'll be a real good player at this level.

"We're excited to have him back."
