The MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) exhibition game attracted an announced crowd of 577 spectators to Credit Union Place.
Craig MacLaughlan scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at 14:43 of the third period to snap a 2-2 tie. Trevor Carmichael netted his third of the game at 15:36 to make it 4-2, and Devan Gunn's power-play marker at 17:14 rounded out the scoring.
Morgan Walker (2), Matt Kelly, Harrison McIver, Drew Coulson and Alex Gallant drew assists for the Caps, who improved their pre-season record to 3-1 (won-lost).
Kent Small and Jamie Russell replied for the Timberwolves, who once trailed 2-0 and received assists from Prince Edward Islanders Marshall Ellis, Nathan McQuaid and Jesse MacIntyre.
The Caps led 1-0 after one period, and 2-1 following 40 minutes.
Shots on goal
Overall, each team registered 35 shots on goal. Paul Dorsey stopped all 19 shots he faced for the Caps through the first 31:19 of the game, and Alex Micalef allowed two goals on 16 shots the rest of the way. Kyle Ferdinand went the distance for Miramichi.
Referee Wayne Doyle called eight minors, two fighting majors and two 10-minute misconducts against Miramichi. The Caps were assessed nine minors and two fighting majors.
The Capitals close out pre-season play with a return visit to Miramichi tonight. The Caps open the 2010-11 regular season at home against Dieppe on Sunday, Sept. 12. Game time is 2 p.m.
