After dropping their first game of the tournament to Perth-Andover, N.B., 9-8, the Chevys rolled off three straight wins to advance to the final. There, they met the same Perth-Andover team, which pulled out a nail-biting 2-1 decision.
The Chevys entered the top of the seventh inning of the championship game down 2-0. But, as they did all weekend, the Chevys refused to quit. They registered four straight two-out hits, and had the tying run thrown out at home plate.
Other games
In other games, the Chevys defeated host Cole Harbour, N.S., 19-7; Nova Scotia provincial-champion Glace Bay 8-6, and overcame a 5-0 deficit to outscored Cole Harbour 12-7 in the semifinals to advance to the final.
Final
In the championship game, winning pitcher Jordan Davenport shut out the Chevys until the final inning. Henry Perley came on in relief to earn the save. Losing pitcher Nick MacDonald, who was relieved by Tyler Doyle in the sixth inning, was aided by two double-plays and two outfield assists as he threw the best game of the weekend for the Chevys.
Davenport (2-3) and Simon Fortier (1-2) were Perth-Andover's top batters. For Summerside, Steve Holland (2-3), Doyle (2-4) and Spencer McKenna (1-2) led the way offensively.
The Chevys would like to acknowledge the support provided by Curran and Briggs all season.
