Ninety-three runners registered for the 10-kilometre run that toured the streets of downtown Summerside, local parks and Confederation Trail.
Tropical Storm Earl did not have a large effect on the runners. However, most agreed it was the humidity that proved to be their competitor.
"I'm exhausted," said Pizio-Perry, who finished 16th overall in 44 minutes 21 seconds (44:21). "The humidity killed me."
Pizio-Perry said she was not feeling well halfway through the race, and had to fight to earn top female.
"I'm glad I'm done," she said immediately after the race. "That really hurt."
MacKinnon, who holds the course record of 34:12, finished first overall in 35:49.
"It was a good, hard tempo run," said MacKinnon, who added he wasn't aiming to beat his personal best, and that he was happy with his result.

MacKinnon was very close to beating his record in last year's race.
"I was only two seconds off," he said. "My time today wasn't close at all."
