SUMMERSIDE - Three hockey players from Prince Edward Island will be off to Salzburg, Austria, later this week.
Stephen Anderson from Morell, Brett Beauvais from Summerside and Stephen
MacInnis from St. Peters Bay will play for the Team Canada Selects in the under-16 International Cup tournament from Aug. 17 to 22. Teams from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Russia and Austria will also compete.
Former NHL general manager Craig Patrick, who is also enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame, is Team Canada's coach.
Anderson, Beauvais and MacInnis, who are all graduates of the Andrews Hockey
Growth Programs in Charlottetown, are currently attending prep schools in Ontario. Beauvais is at Ridley College in St. Catharines, Anderson attends Upper Canada College in Toronto and MacInnis is a student at Appleby College in Oakville.
Among other Island players, MacInnis, Beauvais and MacInnis recently participated in the prestigious Eastern Junior Hockey League (EJHL) Showcase tournament in Marlborough, Mass., in late July. The team featured players from across North America and Europe.
This tournament gave the players maximum exposure to NCAA Division 1 programs. The opportunity to play at a high level against future U.S. college players was a great experience, and provided players additional options as they move forward in their careers.
The Island players are currently in Toronto practising with Team Canada, which travels to Austria on Friday.
