SUMMERSIDE - The City of Summerside will have to wait a bit longer to find out if it's successful in its bid to host the 2011 RBC Cup.
JP Desrosiers, event development officer, says Hockey Canada has postponed a decision until June 15.
"They just need more time," Desrosiers explained.
The Summerside Western Capitals competed for the RBC Cup in Victoria, B.C., last month but got knocked out in the preliminary round.
Some off-ice behaviour led the team being sent home early. At the time, the team's general manager acknowledged a TV was broken at a resort where the team was staying.
Desrosiers said Hockey Canada gave no indication that incident had anything to do with this delay, and simply indicated they needed more time.
"That means they have two really good bids to pick from," Desrosiers said. "If we do get the Royal Bank Cup, we'll know that they were very confident in our bid."
Desrosiers said Summerside has a number of things on its side: strong junior 'A' franchise, great rink and ability to sell tickets - demonstrated by the close to 7,000 sold for two Fred Page Cup games that were initially planned here.
Summerside is up against Thunder Bay, Ont., to host the 2011 national junior 'A' championship.

Please people understand this,,the one`s involved don`t give a crap or anything else about anyone else but themselves, that I know .After all ,,representing the honorable, very proud City of Summerside should be good enough but no it was`nt they hadda show up in Angies instead of resting up for trip. The Summerside Western Capitals organization apparently means nothing to them if they willingly brought down this eternal mess upon the organization

Maybe is someone did something with the boys, and not keep them in a motel room..things might have been different. Who knows? And I do think the coaches should be blamed! If I had a son on the team and I sent him out there with the coaches as chaperones I would want them to look after my son! Not sit around and do whatever is was they were doing when all this crap was going on. And furthermore, what the heck was up with having a billion dollar resort in the middle of nowhere for them to stay???? C'mon...I really don't think it was only Summerside that was drinking out there...those other teams were drinking as well! They are all young boys so you can't tell me otherwise...

A hockey team doesn't get sent home for breaking a TV.
Word has it that the teams behavior in particular the 20 year olds was disgraceful. From partying in moncton before leaving almost missing there flight, to showing up to breakfast in a rob and slippers, to smoking outside to main hotel entrance to having words with hockey canada officials at a bar after being elimnated.
A complete lack of disipline all around. Looks bad on the city, the players and in particular the coaches.
Love the fact that city tax dollars went toward presenting the tournament bid and the team blow there chance. Prehaps the team should be on the hook for the money?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA,,Well well well well it looks like there`s alot of finger`s being pointed, they did this/that or the other thing. You don`t have to be a rocket scientist to figure out why noone from the team can be reached or for that matter even wants to be reached. They have/must/gotta be embarressed, obviously their keeping it quiet,or are they?.Western PEI is the extreme land of naysayers/gossipper`s,people who on other hand would rather die than believe nothing really happened. But did nothing really happen ,we`ll really never know.A tv was smashed- how`d it get smashed and who smashed it,the same with the confrontation with the scout from hockey Canada, which was between those involved.Yes they were representing PEI(Summerside Western Capitals)those involved were 20 yr olds, was an extreme joke to them but other`s will see it quite differently. If Cap`s management deem everything settleed/justified then so be it

I dont know how to tell some of you this, but its minor hockey so its not making national headlines, and only those involved in minor hockey actually care about this. It dosent give Summerside a black eye it gives that team and its owners coaches and chaperones a black eye, besides, something else will happen shortly and this whole incident will be forgotten and you will have something new to rant about.

Seriously enough with all these insane ideas...suspend the team for a yr...that's a great idea since the 20's were the ones responsible for most of the damage/behavioral issues. These guys obviously feel bad for what they did as I haven't seen hide nor hair of them since they came home. What they did was wrong and everyone agrees.

The City of Summerside WILL get the RBC Cup in 2011, look at the criteria of hosting the tourney....a well behaved team isn't one of them.

Enuf of blaming coaches for what happened, in no way is Kenny or Scotty responsible to put choke collars on these kids and babysit, not getting paid enough. In my opinion they were lucky to control them as long as they did, and if Corcoran had of made the trip, I think he keeps them under control.

    Who's responsible?
    - June 21st, 2010 at 19:04:57

The player(s) involved has put a black mark on the city and the team. Playing on a team brings responsibility, including representing your team and community with utmost dignity. A life lesson to be taught here is that people have short memories when it comes to good deeds being done, but long memories when it comes to bad deeds.

The player(s) involved should be made to publically apologize to the fans, citizens of Summerside, and the staff, volunteers and other players of the Caps for the embarressment they have caused. I am sure that these players think they are adults so they should do the honourable thing and publically apologize.

Please tell me that Summerside city officals are not so thick in the head that they believe they still have a chance at hosting the RB Cup?

Humm lets review, first you are involved in a huge controvery about redefining the host city for the Fred Page Cup and threaten legal action if you dont get your way.

Then you follow it up by being the worst team in the tournament and get sent home early because you let under-agers get drunk and trash a hotel room. You know this stigma that Maritimers are rough and backwards, this might not help improve the image.

Im sure if I was on Hockey Canada Summerside would be my first pick!!!

I must agree, I am truly sick of hearing SUMMERSIDE THIS, SUMMERSIDE THAT and how great they are. They totally made PEI look terrible and this organization DOES NOT desreve to host the RBC. In fact, for the organizations actions, they maybe should be suspended for one year of league play in the MJAHL.
