A construction company’s excavation pit in West Point was the place to be on the weekend as 52 four-person teams gathered for West Point Fire Department’s ninth annual P.E.I. Pond Hockey championship. There were 10 outdoor rinks available and as many as six of them were in use at a time to get the 101 scheduled games played within a day and a half. The cold weather didn’t seem to bother the players, but many spectators quickly retreated to the warmth of the fire department’s events tent. In the tent, volunteers served up 500 pounds of the event’s popular home-cut rink fries. Photos by Eric McCarthy/Journal Pioneer

it's nice to see that point west people have a goal in mind by keeping their winter sport alive and well. Proud to know these wonderful people keep on smiling west-pointers
