School pride and community spirit were evident at Bloomfield Elementary School on Tuesday when more than 40 volunteers gathered to help construct new accessible playground equipment. The project brought together former students, parents and grandparents of students, staff and several other community volunteers, many bringing tools, equipment, even food for the working bee. By the end of the day, two sprawling play structures, one for the lower grades and one for the upper elementary grades, were all but completed. Gravel base, wood fiber matting and an inspection were just about all that remained to be completed. The project cost close to $90,000, covered by donations, grants and a massive three-year fundraising initiative spearheaded by the Bloomfield Home and School Committee.
