Cool, damp conditions affected the turn-out for the Survivors' lap at the Canadian Cancer Society's Westisle Relay for Life Friday night. Of the 110 survivors who had confirmed their attendance for the victory lap, between 75 and 80 braved the conditions. Eighteen teams, most of them with team slogans and costumes, spilled onto the Westisle school track soon after the survivors completed their lap which signalled the start of the all-night walk. A student-led team of 35 volunteers helped stage the annual event which, this year, raised over $41,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society. Some 700 luminaries were lit in honour of cancer survivors and in memories of those who lost their battle with the dreaded disease.
