Mayor’s attack on Williams was mean

Editor,

I would like to respond to Mayor (Basil) Stewart’s recent letter (Jan. 23, 2013). There is no doubt that Mr. Williams has been a thorn in the side of the mayor for many years.  However that is no excuse for this mean, vicious personal attack on a private citizen launched by His Worship.

This is not the first time the mayor has resorted to such tactics. Defending his policies and programs with facts and truths are his right, but he should toss away his poisoned pen.

I would remind Mayor Stewart that all the citizens of Summerside elected him, even those opposed to his policies, and there is an expectation that he will carry out his responsibilities in a dignified manner that will reflect favourably on the office and on the city.

It is obvious from the letter that the mayor is maintaining a file on Mr. Williams. In my opinion that is cause for some concern. Are there other files on private citizens? Where are these files maintained and whom are they shared with, and for what purpose? These are questions begging for answers.

All of these activities are the action of a bully. It’s ironic on the same day the letter was printed, the city was signing up in support of the anti-bullying campaign.

I would also like to point out to Mayor Stewart that there is no shame in placing your name on the ballot to offer the electorate a choice no matter how often you are defeated.  There is shame though in being a poor winner. There is shame too, in using the occasion of a cottage party to bypass city bylaws and squander over $1 million of taxpayers money. Shame too, in commissioning a report on this flagrant misuse of public funds and then keep the report a secret.

What about campaigning and insisting, falsely, that the city’s debt was only $39 million?

I suppose there will be a new file at City Hall with my name on it if there isn’t one already there.

I’m glad I’ve gotten that off my chest. It’s been bothering me for some time.

Journal Pioneer slandered me with a news story when I could have been wrongly convicted in 1994 I was harassed with an investigation for Defamatory Libel by the Summerside Police. I was held at Unit 9 against my will and misdianosed with bi-polar manuc depression. ,The province has remained silent on my demands for a public inquiry. The province can't proceed with theraputic courts until the inquiry has been held. It was the Liberals who repealed legislation allowing a lawyer to act as Chairperson of Mental Health Review Boards in stead of P.E.I. Supreme Court justices. I won't stop till I am fully vindicated which means Summerside loses its police force

This nut job told the City not to waste taxpayers' money on hosting events in Summerside than Summerside got ripped off 1.3 million dollars. This nut job demanded a Police Commissioner because I could have been wrongly convicted. Just wait till Summerside comes under the Access to Information Act then kiss tourism goodby

Have you ever read the letters from Mr. Williams? Those are negative and insulting. Get over it Elmer!

The Summerside Police have a file on me for picketing at City Hall and placing signs in my front yard. It is the same police force who refuses to disclose their files.

They have a file on you because your a bit of a nut job.......Basil is rediculous and stuff that has gone on in the city over the past several years is rediculous. That being said, some of the nonsense you go on with is rediculous.
