Environment being overlooked

Editor,

The environment is important, and is clearly being overlooked.

It is more important than if the stocks are up or down, or if the weather is hot or cold, or if the royal couple is coming to P.E.I. It is our future. I am only 15, and our generation has to pick up where you have left off. We have to live with your mistakes and hopefully fix them.

We have to worry about the air we breathe, the water we drink, the fish we eat, and what chemicals are in them.

I look forward to travelling the world, and observing wildlife, but who knows if these creature will even exist in the future?

I look forward to exploring great forests and meadows, but who knows if these will exist with ever increasing clear-cutting and land decertification? I ask you, did you have to worry about this as a kid?

We cannot carry on as we are, or we will face troubles that make today’s seem like nothing.

The reality is that we are not the only humans on Earth and we are sure not the only animals. Everything we do has an effect on something, and that in turn has an effect on something else, and it will follow just like a chain of dominoes.

Our time on Earth is short, but important and it is your job to make it worth while.

Make sure that you are helping, not harming and think to the future because your actions now affect it in astronomical ways.

Reduce, re-use, recycle, and even refuse – refuse what is not needed; life is better with less.

You can make a change; everyone can, and soon we all will.

It does not have to be big, but at least it’s something.

You can do it right here on the island and it will still make a change. Do it in your community, or even just in your house; it’s not hard.

As a teacher of mine once said “Think globally, act locally.”
