To the Editor,
Giant corporations play havoc in the food production, as their drive is to produce more for less. Without unbiased research, one would never suspect the grave dangers of different products and/or the ingredients in them.

There’s extreme concern for the quality of our medical care and the availability of doctors on Prince Edward Island. Of an equal urgency should be the knowledge of what's in our food.

Unknown illnesses, a high level of cancer and overweight difficulties, should be enough to make individuals react to the dire selection of junk and ‘alternative of nutrition’, available in what we see as a “food market”.

Sugar has never been a health food, yet today, the term “natural cane sugar” is often used as if it's fine to eat or drink.

We are in misleading times, where the word “natural” is used in advertising for almost anything. As an example, many juices are presented as all natural. The ingredients are mostly water, natural sugar, juice from concentrate and chemicals for preservation and/or flavor and colour. Sometimes, reconstituted juice is mentioned. Vital nutrients and minerals are stripped out with the processing.

The harsh truth about drinking soda can be found at It's most alarming to read the possible ingredients of the famous pop everyone seems to drink.

High fructose corn syrup is a concentrated form of sugar, fructose derived from corn. It increases body fat, cholesterol and triglycerides and it also makes you hungry. Potassium benzoate, a preservative that can be broken down to benzene in your body, is a carcinogen. Food dyes result in impaired brain function, hyperactive behaviour, difficulty focusing and lack of impulse control.

It's obvious why our society is sick.

In many countries, genetically modified — GMO crops are banned yet in Canada there’s not much stir yet.

The tasty sweet corn is already arriving from the U.S. How safe is it to eat even if quite tasty? What’s produced on the Island, is it GMO corn? Illnesses abound and we eat away. Why not be informed and take the necessary precautions to not be ill for years before leaving this world? Why not write politicians and health officials with your concerns?
