Some immigrants are facing difficulties trying to find work here

Editor,

I would like to bring attention to a situation that is very close to me. It seems these days, Canada and even P.E.I. is receiving immigrants from all over the world; opening our arms to those who wish to take refuge in the safety of our peaceful country.

It is absolutely fantastic; of course, that we get to hear about all these people who have moved here and had their dreams come true, but what happens to those whose stories we do not hear about?

I have a friend who is married to a Canadian citizen, has three Canadian children and is more than willing to work to support themselves, but cannot due to the fact that all businesses must first offer the job to any Canadian citizen that applies and meets the job requirements.

Even when a job was obtained it was necessary to repeat the application process every time their work visa needed to be renewed. Now this person cannot find an employer to hire him, while the fish plants on P.E.I. get access to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.

Do not get me wrong. I do not think that Immigration Canada or the federal government are wrong to try to help so many, but they need to refine their methods before any more Canadian families fall through the cracks.

I hope that this will help in some small way to help lift the burdens all those who did not get their happy ending here have to bear.
