Editor,
Well, we have a lot of impaired drivers on P.E.I.
What I do not agree with is a first time offence for impaired drivers being five days in jail, lose your licence for a year and $1,700 in fines.

Now someone who has been caught numerous times gets the same treatment. Why is that? I do not see any fairness in this.

I do not agree with anyone drinking and driving, or getting caught over and over again and getting a slap on the wrist for it.

Wake up. Ban some of these drivers for life, and if they are caught driving again give them six to 12 months in jail and make them pay a fine between $2,000 to $3,000. This will open some of these people's eyes.

If you are going to give them a slap on the wrist they are going to keep doing the same offence over and over. Throw the book at them.

Like they say, if you commit the crime, you do the time.

I agree absolutely with this! If the person has repeatedly offended, apparently the slap on the wrist is not working. If they have a family to support and a full time job, too bad, perhaps they should have thought about that before drinking and driving AGAIN!! The person they could hit and possibly kill has a family and maybe a job too, but it would not change the fact that they were hit by a drunk driver who had been caught numerous times and given the proverbial slap on the wrist!
