Editor,

The recent news about the United Way of P.E.I.’s 2013 campaign is disappointing. It appears that donations are declining and the charity is falling short of meeting its target.

This in turn creates a challenge for the organization to support its full roster of programs.

The United Way of P.E.I. supports families, children, youth, seniors and persons with disabilities. They improve the quality of life for Islanders through partnerships with local community organizations.

I think it’s important that we dig deep and offer our assistance where it’s needed. As Islanders we care about supporting our communities and people who may be less fortunate than ourselves.

I know Islanders are under increasing financial pressure these days with job cuts, the HST, pension reductions, and a shrinking social safety net. And it’s not surprising that they have less money at the end of the day to divide among priorities.

However, even a small donation can make a big difference here in Prince Edward Island.
