People are complaining that jobs cuts on P.E.I. are disproportionate. How about the number of organizations in downtown Summerside?
There is the Summerside Port Authority, SRDC (Summerside Regional Development Corporation), Summerside Downtown Association and the City of Summerside has an economic development department. All these are located within a quarter of a mile from each other.
Anyone who wants to locate a business within downtown Summerside will see this as overkill and question the cost, then could locate elsewhere.
The Journal Pioneer editorial was complaining about high taxes in Summerside. The City of Summerside could drop its economic development and save taxpayers money.
The Summerside Port Authority had hired a consultant to develop a plan; apparently none of the staff of the four entities had the expertise to develop a 25-year plan.
The question is why have a disproportionate number of entities and not reduce those that aren't performing?
