Making healthy choices is your responsibility

I am writing in response to Anne Gallant’s letter to the editor “It’s your health; it’s your responsibility.”  I do agree with this letter because I believe that health is your own responsibility, although some health problems can be put in the hands of the Medicare system.

Health care is your own responsibility because it is not the Medicare system who tells you to go out and pick up a burger at McDonalds when you’re running late to somewhere.

There are plenty of healthy food choices that can be substituted for the fatty unhealthy foods that are causing this health issue.  It is not fair to blame the Medicare system on your health problems because they can tell you the health risks of eating unhealthy foods or the benefits of eating healthy foods, but it’s up to you as a person to decide whether or not you are going to follow their advice.

Out of my own experience I will say that I know eating healthy is costly and inconvenient sometimes, but in the long run, it is better for you and it will make you feel better too. Diet takes a while to adjust, start slow and make healthy food choices.
