I am embarrassed – embarrassed by the latest moves by a party I was once a proud member of - the PC Party of P.E.I. With news on Friday that Steven Myers was kicking Olive Crane out of the PC caucus I finally was able to tear up my membership. I suggest others do the same.
After watching this party bash and treat the one good thing they had going for them so badly, it is surprising that I actually held onto my membership for so long.
This party is no longer the party I signed up for. It is a party that is run by a select few who do not care about Islanders. It is a party that would rather remain silent on Mike Duffy but criticize Olive Crane for every move she made. Some MLAs even had Mike Duffy as a guest speaker at their fundraising dinners.
This is a party that has been quite silent on Harper's EI reform even with two members who reside in rural areas where this issue is big and will only get worse.
I cannot understand the PC Party of P.E.I. anymore.
My father, who was born in the late 1800s, would have shook his head at such backstabbing and greed. He would have told them to stand up for Prince Edward Island and their constituents.
Unfortunately, politics is no longer conducted that way and only a select few benefit from it while Islanders are stuck footing the bill.
Our Island's healthcare system is falling to pieces, people are unemployed and many are moving their families West as it seems to be the only place you can survive. Meanwhile, the Island Reform are only interested in their personal gain and do not care who they hurt in the process.
I believe if Mr. Redmond can attract good candidates then the next election is his to win. Meanwhile, it is important Islanders do not vote for Steven Myers, Colin LaVie or James Aylward. Puppets are good for entertaining children, but not good when it comes to representing the electorate who trusted them with their votes.
They have shown their true colours and what they really are - cowards.
