KILDARE -- A home security company was not able to reach the owners of a Kildare home Wednesday morning when a fire alarm was detected at the residence, so the Alberton Volunteer Fire Department was summoned and made the 12-kilometer response with four vehicles.

Fire Chief Tom Murphy said his fire fighters arrived at the right address even though the civic number the security company provided was different than the one posted at the end of the driveway.

There was still confusion, however, over the origin of the call, so the department checked another home in the community. Upon returning to the first residence, the fire department obtained an acknowledgement from the owners that an alarm had been activated but there was no emergency.
