Actor Chris Gascoyne will be at Harbourfront Theatre Oct. 21

SUMMERSIDE — He’s the bad boy of ‘the Street’, behind bars for murder, a drunk, womanizer and a cheat — and he’s coming to Summerside.

Chris Gascoyne, better known to Coronation Street fans as Peter Barlow, will be at Summerside’s Harbourfront Theatre on Oct. 21. Tickets for the show go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.

Coronation Street star, Chris Gascoyne — better known as Peter Barlow — will be at Harbourfront Theatre on Oct. 21 for an intimate and interactive evening filled with stories from the world’s most famous fiction street and life behind the scenes as part of the Atlantic Canada “Peter Barlow — Last Call Tour.”

The show is being presented by the theatre and produced by Stroll Promotions, who have been bringing Corrie stars to Canada for several years.

“We prefer small, intimate theatres, around the 500-seat level, which is exactly what Summerside has,” said Andrew Stuckless of Stroll Promotions, adding the response to the two previous shows prompted the return.

“We knew that the fans were here, in P.E.I., because we would get a lot of feedback from our Halifax shows, saying ‘why don’t you come over’.”

Gascoyne is currently caught up in the long-running British soap’s major storyline, with his character accused of murdering his young mistress, Tina McIntyre, played by award-winning actress Michelle Keegan.

He’s been in the role, on and off, since 2010, and has been nominated for several accolades at the British Soap for his portrayal of Barlow on what is the world’s longest-running television show.

Gascoyne’s character is a troubled soul, a recovering alcoholic who has fallen off the wagon numerous times. He’s been caught up in several affairs and marriages, is a bigamist and, most recently, was in a tawdry affair with Keegan’s character, the babysitter to Gascoyne’s on-screen son, Simon, portrayed by young actor, Alex Bain.

“We’re hoping he will be finished the big storyline and the big question will be answered,” said Stuckless. “Sometimes people say they don’t want to go to the show because they don’t want to hear spoilers. That’s not the case. It’s a no-spoiler show.”

He added that it was actually Gascoyne’s wife who contacted his company about doing a possible tour of Canada’s East Coast.

“He wants to do a little sightseeing,” said Stuckless.

It’s the third time that stars from the popular British soap will stop in Summerside.

Jennie McAlphine, who plays Fiz, and Graeme Hawley, who played her then on-screen husband, John Stape, were the first to visit in the spring of 2012. That November, Alan Halsall and Andy Whyment, who portray on-screen buddies, Tyronne Dobbs and Kirk Sutherland, graced the stage at the Harbourfront.

“We had such a warm welcome,” said Stuckless.

Gascoyne begins his tour in St. John’s on Oct. 19, stops in Summerside and then continues on to Pictou for a show on Oct. 22 and two shows in Halifax on Oct. 25.

Hosting each show will be die-hard Coronation Street fan and owner of Halifax flower shop, My Mother’s Bloomers, Neville MacKay.

Tickets for the Summerside show go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. at the Harbourfront Theatre box office or online at harbourfronttheatre.com.

VIP tickets are also available and include a meet and greet after the show.

Showtime on Oct. 21 is 7:30 p.m.
