ALBERTON -- Alberton Town Council gave its agreement in principle Monday that the town will remain involved with Up West Winterfest for 2015, but stopped short of giving a financial commitment.

Since there is a municipal election scheduled for November, Council decided it will be up to the new council to make a decision on 2015 finances.

The Up West Winterfest met recently and reached out to the Alberton, Tignish, O’Leary and Tyne Valley municipal councils. The length of the winter carnival and the dates are still to be determined, but organizers indicated they are considering dates later into the winter.

“I think we should keep it up,” councilor David Campbell commented.

The current council will leave it up to its successor to name a town representative to sit on the planning committee.
