Teen arrested in connection with such crimes over the weekend

SUMMERSIDE — A 14-year-old city teen is in custody, arrested on a probation breach and suspicion of being responsible for several thefts from vehicles on the weekend.

Summerside Police Services

Sgt. Joe Peters, with Summerside Police Services, said there has been a recent rash of thefts from vehicles throughout the city.

Over the weekend, there were seven reported thefts from vehicles, all of which occurred on Arcona Street.

Taken were various items, including electronics and change.

Peters attributed the warmer weather and school being out with the increase of these types of thefts in recent months.

He cautioned the public to keep the doors of their vehicles locked, remove all valuables from their vehicles and, if they spot someone suspicious in their area, contact police immediately.

Peters said these thefts mostly occur overnight, usually between 1 and 5 a.m.

If anyone has any information, they are asked to contact Summerside police at 902-432-1201 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
