LAKE VERDE — A Fort Augustus teen faces impaired driving charges after being arrested early Saturday morning near Lake Verde.

At about 9 a.m., Kings District RCMP stopped a car on Route 213 near Lake Verde after it failed to obey a stop sign at the road’s intersection with Route 5.

Following further investigation, police arrested the 18-year-old man at the scene for impaired driving.

He was taken to the Montague RCMP detachment where he provided breath samples, with readings that showed more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

The teen was released the same day and is scheduled to appear in Charlottetown court in September.

Police continue to ask the public to assist them in the detection and apprehension of impaired drivers on Island roadways.

Drinking and driving is a danger to everyone at any time of the day or nigh, concluded RCMP.
