A rally will be held in Charlottetown Thursday calling for peace in the Middle East and for the violence against the Palestinian people in Gaza to end.

Leo Broderick, with the Island Peace Committee and the Canadian Peace Alliance, says he believes more attention must be paid to the tragic killing and wounding of civilians in Gaza.

“Canadian politicians in all parties have turned a blind eye to the killing,” Broderick said.

“We need to show them that the people of P.E.I. and Canada are opposed to the collective punishment of civilians in Gaza and that we support peace and justice in the area — not violence.”

To date, many Palestinians have been killed and hundreds wounded. Most of the casualties are civilians, many of whom are women and children. As well, water and sewer systems in Gaza are being destroyed, said Broderick.

“We are calling for an end to the violence and to an end to the occupation as it is the primary cause of the injustice that underlies the violence in the region,” said Marian White with the Island Peace Committee.

The rally will be held on Thursday, July 17, at 1 p.m. at Province House.

Every argument has two(2) side and I assume you just forgot to mention that Israel is having hundreds of rockets shot at it everyday and were the ones that wanted a cease fire but was rejected by the same people who are hiding in Mosques and schools. Guess you have to have been there and not in Western PEI to understand what is happening and not listening to LEO spouting off about something he knows nothing about AGAIN.

I stand by my statement. More than 1400 Gaza residents have been killed by Israeli bombs and 1 Israeli was killed by rockets from Gaza. I guess the children that were killed are terrorists too. If you remember a few years back, the Israeli air force bombed a refugee camp, killing thousands of innocents. Dispute these facts with any proof. Leo is not the source of my facts, read any newspaper or listen to any news and you will see I am correct. Stop drinking the Kool-Aid and try to make an informed decision on your own because you seem to lack the ability to see objectively.BTW, where are you writng from? Are you over there yourself or do you just thnk that upwesters are ignorant and incapable of reading newspapers. I read 6 international newspapers every day, including the New York Times and Wash. Post. What do you read?

Over 1400 people in Gaza killed ,including women and children and other civillians, 1 person killed in Israel. Talk about using an elephant gun on rabbits, it must make Harper and Baird proud to be a part of this slaughter. They even call the house 10 minutes before bombing it. Talk about a targeted audience. The Israellis know exactly who they are killing to take their land. Kind of sounds like Canada and the US in the Old West when they wanted the Indians land.
