Best of the Island concert series commences this Saturday with Meaghan Blanchard

CHARLOTTETOWN – Live from The Mack, it’s Saturday night! The Charlottetown Festival’s golden season is now underway and an all-new concert series is joining the 2014 schedule.

Meaghan Blanchard

Spotlight PEI features the hottest names from the Island’s burgeoning music scene on Saturday nights in July and August at the cabaret theatre. Each Saturday presents a different Island star, with music ranging from folk and traditional, to rock, pop, and country.

The series kicks off this Saturday, July 12, with an intimate concert from two-time ECMA-winner Meaghan Blanchard.

The Hunter River native is enjoying the success of her third album, “She’s Gonna Fly,” a roots-and-country full-length tracked with acclaimed producer, John Keane (R.E.M, B-52′s, Nancy Griffith). Along with winning three Music P.E.I. awards, “She’s Gonna Fly” garnered radio airplay across the nation, including on mainstream country networks.

The first single “When You Used to Call My Name” was also selected as part of this year’s 60-song revue tour-de-force, “Canada ROCKS!,” now playing in the Homburg Theatre at Confederation Centre of the Arts.

Blanchard will be touring the United Kingdom in the fall along with Tim Chaisson and will soon be back in Athens, Georgia, for more recording.

July also includes intimate performances at The Mack with rising traditional music stars Ten Strings and a Goatskin, and Canadian Folk Award recipient, Ashley Condon. All concerts begin at 8 p.m.

Spotlight PEI continues in August with a lineup of talent from the red soil including an all-star band made up of members from Racoon Bandit, English Words, North Lakes, and Two Hours Traffic entitled ‘The First Waltz’; Paper Lions; Dennis Ellsworth and Haunted Hearts, and a special new album launch from songbird, Catherine MacLellan.

Tickets for all Spotlight PEI shows are available at the Confederation Centre box office at (902) 566-1267 and toll-free at 1-800-565-0278, or online at charlottetownfestival.com.
