SUMMERSIDE — Summerside Lobster Festival is getting an infusion of culture.
Not only will there be unique acts, like buskers and amateur talent showcases, there will be entertainment daily running into the event at Green’s Shore.
The festival is also bringing two new events to the city.
In a big tent on Water Street, July 14 to 18, Wyatt Heritage Properties Inc. and La Belle-Alliance will present Spirit of Chautauqua.
The all-ages festival of music will feature hip-hop dance, artist demonstrations, poetry, talks, puppet shows, music, magic shows and more.
A section of Water Street, in the city’s core, will be closed off as artists such as Richard Wood, Mike Dixon, Nathan Wiley, Catherine O’Brien, Ten Strings and a Goat Skin, Tim Chaisson and Meghan Blanchard take the stage.
There will be special exhibits and tours, including “Laying the Keel: An Outdoor Historical Display,” and “Shoreline Seafood Safari: A Natural History Tour.”
The event runs daily and nightly throughout the week.
Then, on July 19, for the first time, DiverCity comes to Summerside, using the same entertainment tent that will house Chautauqua.
“On Saturday, DiverCity is there all afternoon and evening and there is a free concert with Lennie Gallant and a Cuban band that night,” said Summerside Lobster Festival executive director, Don Quarles.
