TIGNISH -- With Communities in Bloom judges due to arrive in Tignish on July 17, the municipality is not taking chances on Hurricane Arthur. “We’re taking our flowerpots down. Every one of them,” community administrator Karen Gaudet-Gavin said Friday morning.

There are 40 flowerpots displayed throughout the community and Gaudet-Gavin said the maintenance staff is putting them into storage until Arthur clears out, concerned they would not survive the sustained wind and driving rain that are forecast to accompany Arthur into P.E.I. on Saturday. Forecasters anticipate Arthur will be downgraded to a tropical storm by the time it arrives in P.E.I., but warn it will still be packing strong winds and heavy rainfall.

Gaudet-Gavin said she believes the community is ready for the wild weather.
