TIGNISH -- The Tignish Irish Moss Festival has nine contestants vying for the title of Miss Irish Moss.
The pageant starts Thursday, June 26, the first day of the festival, and concludes with the crowning on Sunday, June 29. The festival continues until Canada Day.

Pageant contestants, all vying to succeed reigning queen Jamie Myers, are Ella Doucette, Miss Acadian Machine Works, daughter of Kevin and Nancy Doucette; Mariah Gallant, Miss Little Gracie, daughter of Willard and Tammy Gallant; Fallon Gaudet, Miss Ledge Lady, daughter of Larry and Sally Gaudet; Michelle Gaudet, Miss Twin Sisters, daughter of Brian and Cindy Gaudet; Sydney Gaudette, Miss Shirley’s Café, daughter of Pat Gaudette and Pam Hogan; Taylor Gaudette, Miss Star Ship, daughter of Michael and Carol Anne Gaudette; Faith Jeffery, Miss Twin Peaks, daughter of Troy and Sherri-Dawn Jeffery; Makayla Jeffery, Miss Five Star Shellfish, daughter of Wyatt and Helen Jeffery and Chelsea Murphy, Miss Eugene’s General Store, daughter of Paul and Bonnie Murphy.
The pageant will be held at Tignish Credit Union Arena. The streetwear portion will be held there following the festival’s 7 p.m. opening ceremonies on Thursday. They will participate in the pancake flipping contest at Shirley’s Café Saturday morning and will be on stage for the talent portion of the pageant Saturday at 7 p.m.
On Sunday the contestants will participate in the festival pageant at 1 p.m. and will be back on stage Sunday night for the final judging and crowning.
Coordinators for this year’s pageant are Savannah DesRoches, Shauna Doucette, Maria LeClair, Alicia Martin and Monica Perry.
